Dave and Kate literally bought a tiny town in Central Oregon located on the John Day River in the John Day Fossil Basin. They live at Service Creek - population 2. They left their posh lifestyle of comfortable corporate jobs, living in a beautiful house in downtown Portland, Oregon, and up and moved to Service Creek in July 2007 to take over a lodge, restaurant, deli/store, raft rental and river shuttle business. They found Service Creek in 2003 when they stayed at the lodge on the way to their wedding. Kate and Dave had such a great time that they kept on coming back year after year. In July of 2006, they were offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to pursue their dream of owning and operating a lodge, as the previous owners wanted to retire. Both parties worked out a deal that included teaching Kate and Dave the ropes of the business. They now happily reside on site and are enjoying their new careers as business owners.
